Library renamed in honour of Murdoch icon Geoffrey Bolton

In a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, Murdoch University celebrated the naming of the Library after eminent historian and Murdoch icon, the late Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Bolton.

The Governor of Western Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC and Murdoch Vice Chancellor Professor Eeva Leinonen, dedicated the Geoffrey Bolton Library in front of invited guests including members of Professor Bolton’s family, his friends and colleagues.

“We decided dedicating our Library in Geoffrey’s honour would be a fitting and lasting memorial,” said Vice Chancellor Leinonen.

Professor Bolton was the Foundation Professor of History at Murdoch, as well as a former Senate member, Chancellor and academic. He was also regarded as one of Australia’s most eminent historians. He died in September 2015, at the age of 83.

An exhibition entitled ‘Geoffrey Bolton: The Legacy of an Eminent Historian and Iconic Murdoch Figure’, featuring artworks, pictures, awards and memorabilia relating to his life, will also be showcased in the Library foyer until March 17.

All visitors are welcome to view the exhibition during Library opening hours.
